Teens, your opinion on hip hop?

I love a good beat as much as the next guy, but I take a look at these lyrics and I think they are really insulting to women. For example,

Low (Flo-Rida)

Shawty had them Apple Bottom Jeans [Jeans]

Boots with the fur [With the fur]

The whole club was lookin at her

She hit the flo [She hit the flo]

Next thing you know

Shawty got low low low low low low low low

Them baggy sweat pants

And the Reeboks with the straps [With the straps]

She turned around and gave that big booty a smack [Ayy]

She hit the flo [She hit the flo]

Next thing you know

Shawty got low low low low low low low low

Did I think I seen shorty get low

Ain't the same when it's up that close

Make it rain, I'm makin it snow

Work the pole, I got the bank roll

Imma say that I prefer them no clothes

I'm into that, I love women exposed

She threw it back at me, I gave her more

Cash ain't a problem, I know where it goes

Are you kidding me? Is this really what we should be listening to?

Teens, your opinion on hip hop?
And they call that music? Bring back the eighties....
Reply:All you tools fail to recognize, without Too Live Crew.

There would be NO NWA, No Eazy-E, No Tupac, No Biggie.

...No, hip hop....Mos def...Talib....

Without them testing the limits, of artistic expression.

We would be one step closer the abolition of the constitution.
Reply:Yea I hate how people claim that they listen to hip hop just for the beat, but the more they pay for these rapper's music the more they're promoting it.

In my opinion, hip-hop sucks and just puts more gangs and trashy people who think they are sooo cool and tough out on the streets (rap like that^^^).

I hate hate hate HATE the "thugs" and hiphop girls at my school.. They always have that "I'm gonna kick her asss that dumbbitch" and stupid immature stuff like that, then they ALWAYS are the ones to start trouble. They are so annoying and think their shitt don't stink!
Reply:omg i luv this song... it used to be my favorite song but now its kind of annoying...anyways...yea it is kinda insulting to women but i dont really care about that i just really like the way it sounds and stuff
Reply:I totally know where you're coming from! That's why I don't listen to rap or hip hop. It's so stupid that people treat women like dirt, and if you don't want to listen to the music, then don't.
Reply:well when rappers write songs they usually dont think about how the lyrics would affect the real world. they just want to make a hit
Reply:I agree with you.

When I listen to music, I listen to the lyrics too. I usually like songs that has a meaning behind the lyrics and werent just thrown together.
Reply:ALMOST all hip hop music by a male singer is insulting towards girls, thats is why i prefer alternative more than hip hop
Reply:Some are fine, most now are very demeaning to women in general.

They talk as if women are objects, only useful for sex, nothing else.

People are disrespected in many genres of music, but it's been getting ridiculous in "rap" and "hiphop."

That's the main reason why I don't listen to it anymore.
Reply:It's definitely not what we should be listening to, but... we do. Its probably one of the reasons why girls are so slutty now; they feel like they have to be.
Reply:its sad when in order for songs to be mainstream, it has to say this crap. I love the beat, but c'mon why cant we listen to something positive.
Reply:to certain women it not insulting like

strippers and prostitutes

and then the teens promote the song by rating them on yahoo music and downloading the songs

if you ever decide to work at best buy you'll see how many teens or their parents pick up the cds for them
Reply:im 13 i love that song
Reply:If you wanna talk like that, then you might as well include the song "Crank that" by soulja boy. If anyone actually knows what he means in the song when he says he is gonna superman a girl they wouldn't be to thrilled or love the song as much as some do. Like others which are disrespectful it has a good beat and all but kids should not be listening to songs like this.
Reply:It really really really depends on what KIND of hip hop you're talking about.

Mainstream (i.e. anything on MTV or the radio) is going to be (usually) MUCH more raunchy and degrading than the underground hip hop.

It's really weird, because underground is almost always really creative...poetry! But all of that mainstream crap is just that...crap. I don't get it. There are probably hundreds of amazing hip hop artists who really are artists. Their music has meaning. sadly, most of them are barely known!!

..yet there are people out there who make lots of money for singing about SOUP and their humps.

So please, if you're gonna listen to rap, TURN OFF YOUR RADIO and get on itunes or myspace and start searching for some real talent.
Reply:I agree. Most people like music like that because it has a "good beat" or "you can dance to it". A lot of music these days is made with a beat for the clubs just so that people don't actually listen to the words.

"Crank Dat" is a good example of this.

This stuff isn't music. Music should actually say something. These people are just out to make themselves rich and as long as people continue to buy it and listen to it, they're getting what they want, and it will continue to be like this.
Reply:I'm into the rock/indie music more but hip hop is really fun to dance to and it's great when you go to clubs and you just let loose to the music. I dont let anything influence me, so..

but im nto sure about the other people. i know music influences them.
Reply:Ya I LOVE hip hop-like clean hip hop- but it really gets on my nerve when they get out songs that inslt women and senda bad messge I agree with u

Yea: Low, Crank That, like any rappers song is REALLY insulting

Thats y i prefer Rock :-) and Pop (kinda)

Also, Hip Hop isnt music. Its jut computers. Last time i checked, in order for a song to actually be called music, u had to SING and USE real musical Instrument-andsend a good mess.
Reply:people overreact about hip hop. it's not that big a deal.
Reply:lmao i love that song..and i only love one hip hop song. i don't like it.it's degrading like rap.i dance hip hop and i can never find good songs. hip hop has gone to dirt. it was kinda better in the past.
Reply:It sucks balls.
Reply:When ignorant people such as you (no offense) raise ignorant questions like this, I get really pissed off.

Fistly, there is stupidity in all genres of music, so by only targetting hip hop it just proves your lack of education. Stop listening to the crap the radio station plays and start listening to some REAL hip hop and some REAL rappers. The radio just plays a whole bunch of crap!

You can start by listening to Talib Kweli, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Nas, AZ and such! Those are REAL rappers and they target the media, politics, and real life issues!

GREAT keep the thumbs down coming, I love getting thumbed down when I am speaking the truth!

Nikki: Yeah I do agree with you, but it's only 'cause that's what certain people want to listen to. They just want to listen to songs that make them dance and so thats what the radio plays, what the people want. And unfortunately, it just so happens that it's all crap. I guess some people just have a poor judgement of hip hop because of what they hear all the time and I don't blame them BUT before they speak negatively of it they should do some research. It really would be great if all the crap that is played on the radio would just be banned, but evidently thats what people want to hear and thats what makes money nowadays. If only educational music was once again back on radio stations. I really wish all those crappy rappers that are making one hit wonders were never given a contract. I just love Tupac, Nas, Common and Biggie's music so I kind of take this personally, but thanks for explaining your input! :)
